Project management theory has advanced tremendously over the last generation. In practice, however, it has often fostered overconfidence and contributed to failure. Construction contracts frequently require submission of a project schedule in MS Project or Primavera, yet these documents often become little more than a paper formality with limited ongoing use.

Two primary concerns for construction professionals are the opacity of black-box software and the risk of AI hallucinations. Opting out of either technology is no longer realistic. Nevertheless, professionals of real standing must keep basing and defending their decisions on sound principles, hard-won experience, and verifiable results.   Excel, when used  with full visibility , lets us leverage AI and beat the hallucination curse.
