Until recently, MS Excel and MS Project were the primary tools for construction managers. While these tools remain essential, the advent of AI has not only made them more accessible but also unveiled numerous innovative use cases that previous generations could only have dreamed of.
This blog has historically explored potential use cases in construction projects and provided essential templates in their simplest forms, available in both MS Project and Excel formats—each ready for an AI-powered transformation. Let us start exploring possibilities.
The AI enable us to consider the best aspects of complementary requirements in planning, quality, and risk control, among others, by allowing us to utilise multiple bodies of knowledge. Consider the following chain of AI prompts for evolving project inputs to create an MS Project schedule.
Prompt-1
Deep Research- I am a consultant to the Chief Project Manager, CPWD entrusted with the construction of a new AIIMS building at Lucknow. The land is yet to be acquired and AAIMS, New Delhi are championing the project. Prepare a detailed Project Management plan as per latest AAIMS norms, CPWD works manual and based on the PMBOK best practices. Propose a WBS and tasks with estimation of time and costs. Prepare a risk register and a detailed Risk Management Plan.
In case you want changes in the WBS or in any other aspect of the AI output, you can recast it as input to the following prompt.
Prompt-2
Break down the above WBS into tasks as per the guidelines of NBC Part -7 Construction Management, Practice and Safety, and provisions in the
CPWD General Conditions of the Contract, CPWD Works Manual, circulars on the
CPWD link "https://cpwd.gov.in/AllCirculars.aspx?Type=24". Provide a
list of predecessors and successors' tasks. Suggest timelines for finishing the
project in 5 years.
You can fine-tune and amend the output as per expert advice and transform it into a Project schedule input with the following prompt.
Prompt-3
Provide the above task list in a tabular form for feeding it
as input to the MS Project application.
The AI faulted and included some junk. Prompt-4 was used to amend and remake the table.
Prompt-4
Remove " " and similar junk in the output for Project Task List for MS Project Input above and provide an amended table.
I'd appreciate it if you could test the above or comparable prompt sequences on an AI tool of your choice and provide feedback on your results. To see the outcomes from my trial document, please

What distinctions can be made? What insights do you draw from the preceding theoretical exercise and its surprising results?
- AI is not merely a tool, but a knowledgeable partner receptive to our requests, suggestions, and modifications.
- We need to offer clear and detailed context to ensure effective interaction.
- Initially, AI may produce inaccuracies or hallucinations, but these will decrease as we improve our communication with it over time.
Finally,
in this era, human learning, the ability to discern with expertise, and lived experiences are more crucial than ever.
It's a great help. The result can be developed based on our requirements. I have tried simple queries and got effective results. Few iterations were needed. May be, not much data to work on in Samskrit language.
